At the same seat, 4K delivers 2.0 times the central PPD of 1080p, with 4 times as many total pixels. Both values rise as you sit farther back, while the screen occupies less of your view. Higher resolution can offer diminishing returns; contrast, eyesight and content determine what you can distinguish.
From a 2.5 m (8.2 ft) couch seat, the 1080p panel delivers 76 central pixels per degree and the 4K panel 151. Higher PPD makes pixels subtend a smaller angle. For a diagonal d and aspect ratio w:h, screen width is d × w / √(w² + h²), and height is d × h / √(w² + h²). Area is width × height; PPI is √(horizontal pixels² + vertical pixels²) / diagonal in inches. Results are rounded for display.
