Stuck with a height you cannot change?
A mantel, a shelf or a console can decide where the screen goes for you. Measure from the floor to where the bottom edge of the screen would sit, usually just clear of whatever is in the way, and type that here. The answer below works out where that puts the middle of the screen, whether it is within the viewing-angle guide, and which direction to move it if it is not. Tilting the panel faces it toward your seat but does not change your viewing angle. Leave it empty if your wall is free.
Every common size from your seat
Each range runs from the ideal, that size centered on your eye line, up to the highest it can go before its center passes the 15° limit from your seat. Panel only: bezels add a little, and wall mounts hang most screens 1 to 3 cm proud of these numbers.

How do I measure my seated eye height with an iPhone?
Tap Measure with your camera under step 3. It opens a true-scale measuring staff in augmented reality: stand it on the floor next to your seat, sit the way you watch, and look at the staff. Every graduation carries a thin horizontal ring; rings above your eyes show their underside, rings below show their top face, and the one exactly at your eye height flattens into a line. Read its number and type it in. A tape measure held to the wall works just as well.
How high should a 65 inch TV be mounted?
Center the screen on your seated eye line, about 102 cm (40 in) from the floor on a typical couch. A 65 inch screen is 81 cm (31.9 in) tall, so its bottom edge lands about 61 cm (24 in) from the floor and its top edge about 142 cm (56 in). Different seating moves every number, which is what the calculator above is for.
Is it OK to mount a TV above a fireplace?
Check the actual height and distance. From 3 m, a screen centre about 80 cm above your eyes is at the 15° reference; from 2 m the difference is about 54 cm. Tilting the screen down can face it toward you but does not reduce how far upward you look. Also follow the TV, mount and fireplace manufacturers' clearance and heat guidance.
Should a wall-mounted TV be tilted?
At eye level, a flat panel faces your seat. A higher panel can tilt down and a lower panel can tilt up by the angle reported here, within the mount's limits. Tilt changes panel orientation; moving the screen or your seat changes the direction you look.
Does mounting height depend on viewing distance?
The eye-level centre stays at the same height. The angle to a higher or lower centre gets smaller as you sit farther back, so the range within the ±15° guide depends on distance.
What about a bedroom or kitchen TV?
Measure eye height in the position you actually watch from, and aim the center there. In bed your eyes sit lower and you recline, so bedroom mounts end up higher on the wall with a steeper downward tilt; check the angle from your pillow. In a kitchen you watch standing, eyes at roughly 150 to 165 cm (59 to 65 in), so a high mount is the correct one there.
